Dehradun
Nestled in the mountain ranges of the Himalayas, Dehradun is the capital of Uttaranchal. It is one of the most beautiful resorts in the sub mountain tracks of India, known for its scenic surroundings. The name Dehradun is a collection of two words "dera" meaning camp and " dun" meaning valley. .

Tapkeshwar Temple
It is about 5 km from the city bus stand and is situated in the Garhi Cantt, area of Dehradun. This cave temple dedicated to lord Shiva is on the bank of a seasonal river made up of stalactite and stalagmite. Here on the Shivlingam, water drips from the top of a rock and hence the name tapkeshwar. It is connected by a regular bus service. On Shivaratri a big fair is held and devotees from all over come to pay their homage to lord Shiva.
Lakshman Sidh
On way to Dehradun from Haridwar and Rishikesh is a temple which is 12 km short of Dehradun, the road is motorable up to the temple. A large number of people throng this temple specially on sundays. Legend has it that a saint underwent penance at this place. It is believed your wishes will be granted here.
Shiv Mandir
It is about 12 km from Dehradun on Mussoorie road. A famous temple of lord Shiva situated at an ideal spot on the way to Mussoorie. It is located on the slope of a Hill.
Jhanda Sahib
Guru Ram Rai ji who was a divine soul set up his 'Dera' or camp in Dehradun. In order to find a suitable location for his camp he dedicated to pitch a Jhanda(flag) tied to a javelin. The place where his javelin pierced the earth become the base camp of the guru and is known as Jhanda Saheb. His seat is still here and a Mahant ji is the head of the Gurudwara. Every year a fair is held here known as Jhanda Mela on the fifth day of Holi- a festival of colors.
